I've been pretty close to home for the last month, so I don't know how this will relate to Illinois. From what I've heard locally, bean yields were generally very good, but short of 'best ever.' At this late date, I think your beans may dry better than your corn. I think it was Nielsen at Purdue that showed graphs of corn drydown at the rate of 0.1 to 0.3% per day at this time of year, and lesser rates later on. And, with just a few days of sunshine forecast in the next week, I'd be surpris...

JD, I just noticed it has been about a month since you posted the second pic of your strip crop study. Back then, both crops looked better than anything I'd seen around here--and your June pics still look better than anything I've seen locally. What stage are the corn and beans in now?

Both the corn and beans look like they've made a lot of progress in the last 3 or 4 weeks. Wish we could have something like your May pic up here in Illinois right now, but we're a bit behind 'normal'. I was kind of expecting to see a little shading effect on the beans in the first 6 ft or so alongs...

From this vantage point, it looks quite good. Looking forward to seeing how the crops progress during the season. I just got back from a weekend in Chattanooga--and I think the tallest corn I saw on the nearly 700 mile trip was about the 4-to 6-leaf stage, in one field in Kentucky. Most of the corn ...
