We're alive. Seems like there is always something going on.

Coyote ajay must be busy herding his caddy & gardener across the border.

I don"t think Frankie checks this site anymore. He was frustrated with the "change" mentality. Seems he was on to something, as many Americans would like to "Change it Back" now.

Another strange weather year. Severe weather this week has been unprecedented. Lots of damage locally last night. 50 - 60 power poles down in one neighboring town alone. Tonight will hopefully be the last night for awhile.

Global warming? Was that the weather phenom that scientists for the Climate Research Unit were caught last November deleting and fudging the data that proved it to be bullshit?

hey mark.........been busy cooking here. been on the cusp of a drought the past 4 years and this year finally pushed through. luckily we got some moisture weds, less than a inch but a relief of .8ths none the less.

NW of here 70 miles or so adjusters are hard at work, some corn adjusted @ 1-2bpa! and you don't have to go that far away before major losses are being found. our soils are much stronger but our local climate reporting station which is 3 miles east of here is reporting the least amount of rain of all the eastern NC reporting stations. more heat this summer than i in my adult life can ever recall. we hardly ever see more than 2 days above 90 in a row because of our proximity to large bodies of water and prevailing NE winds, but we had a stretch a few weeks back where we saw 10 out 14 days above 90 but the killer was no humidity! in that period we where averaging low 50s of humidity, with afternoons in the 30s which is nearly unheard of here.

one fella just down the road from us always plants his crops late compared to everyone else. he planted a farm next to ours in corn 2nd week of May. up until Weds, that corn had only received 1.3 inch coming in 3 events. ours next to his suffered the same, but was planted a full month ahead of his. i'm looking at the worst crop of corn on that farm in my career i'm afraid. if we could catch some more moisture in the next days/weeks, i hope it surprises me!

on good soils though, you can't tell by looking that it is hurt. our home farm received double the amounts mentioned above on 2 of those rain events, and caught one that the other farms did not. pollination is hurt some and ear size is smaller than desired but for what it's been through it looks impressive.

the whole east coast for the large part has suffered similarly to here, NC, VA, DE, MD, PA, SC.......

and our new crop corn basis is already reflecting this sure to be shortfall, climbing the past few weeks for JFM delivery periods.

Dad & i rode last week several hundred miles looking and it was pitiful in most areas.

leave for Argentina on the 27th to return on the 1st of Aug. we call it the "Appalachian Trail" trip! thanks to Mark Sanford!

hope all you folks have a great crop! JD

No drought around here. Another storm rolled through last nite, got 50 to 100 percent hail damage on about 25 % of our crops. Lots of flooded areas this year for sure.
